Campus Life

Life at RGUKT

RGUKT is a fully residential environment. This is necessary because most of the rural students come from a geographically distributed wide area and would not be able to commute to the campus. The campus is a self-contained township for a community of about 7,000 people — comprising 6,000 students, 500 faculty and staff, and 1,200 service providers. Facilities include shops, hospitals, banks, laundry services, barbershops, and more.

Since the students join the institution at the age of 15, being away from home adds to their stress. The local Health Clinic provides Psychological Counseling and support.

Life in a Residential Campus

The program is intensive and runs for 3 semesters of 16 weeks on a 6-day week. Only 6 weeks of vacation is permitted: 1 week during Dasara, 1 week during Sankranthi, and 4 weeks in summer.

All education is mediated through Information and Communication Technologies. The academic complex is connected by high-speed LAN, and a laptop is provided to each student from their first year. Each class of about 50 students has mentors who conduct discourse and discussion around pre-recorded expert lectures.

Daily Schedule
  • Morning: Physical training and exercise (mandatory during first two years)
  • 8 AM – 4 PM: Academic classes — 4 periods of nearly 2 hours each, with a lunch break
  • Evening: Sports participation
  • 7:30 – 10:30 PM: Soft skills, reading classics, film programmes, edutainment
Sports & Games

RGUKT provides facilities for both indoor games (caroms, chess) and outdoor games (volleyball, basketball). Swimming pool facility is anticipated. Inter-campus competitions are also held.

Shopping & Hostel Services

To cater to the needs of students, there is a general store, a canteen, a salon, and a beauty parlour in every hostel. Students can make use of these services at a reasonable price.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Students are encouraged to get involved in arts, music, drama, debate, painting, and other related skills. Evening edutainment sessions include audio books of classics (Western and Indian), touch typing, debating clubs, and online newspaper reading.

Health & Safety

RGUKT provides its students and staff all necessary medical facilities. The medical centre has 30 beds and 5 doctors with round-the-clock staff availability.
