Education at RGUKT

The programme offered by RGUKT consists of a six-year integrated course after 10th class examination leading to a B.Tech. degree. The first part is a two-year Pre-University Course (equivalent to TS Intermediate) followed by a four-year Engineering Course. By bringing students into the University at an earlier stage, RGUKT imparts a broad-based education including humanities and liberal arts.

This is equivalent to the two-year Intermediate (TS) education. The programme provides a qualitative plus-two education and lays a stronger foundation for the technical and professional courses ahead. It includes:

• An inbuilt system for remedial education for students who are relatively weak
• A foundation course in IT, preparing students to make full use of ICT resources
• Short-term courses in humanities and social sciences
• A permitted exit after Pre-University if a student chooses to go for a career in other professional programmes

Upon completion of 6 years of education and prescribed requirements, graduates are awarded a B.Tech. degree in one of the following engineering disciplines:

2. Civil Engineering
3. Computer Science and Engineering
4. Electrical Engineering
5. Electronics & Communications Engineering
6. Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering
7. Mechanical Engineering

The RGUKT programme is built on a new model of liberal professional education creating future leaders with a broad understanding of the world. It provides:

• A structured environment with basic skills of communication, teamwork, and leadership
• Learning-by-doing paradigm using personalized mentors and intelligent tutoring systems
• Self-paced learning with variable duration to reach mastery-level outcomes
• Focus on all-round development with emphasis on personality development
• About 30% of time devoted to soft skills

The employment prospects of RGUKT graduates are comparable to other world-class universities in India. The broad-based education, including soft skills, provides a strong foundation for national competitive examinations. Appropriate placement guidance and awareness programmes prepare students for private and public sector opportunities. Students also learn entrepreneurship and other skills that can help them set out on their own.

As a government-sponsored university, the tuition fees at RGUKT are highly subsidized by the Telangana Government. The annual fee (for TS students) for the Pre-University programme is Rs. 36,000/-, which includes tuition, lodging and boarding.
